Vanguard Presents the Story Behind the Jeans & Bikes

VANGUARD MOTO GUZZI V8

With four one-of-a-kind Vanguard Moto Guzzi café racers now in the stable, it is time to highlight them. The 1955 V8 is one of the most legendary motorcycles in history. This 500cc 8-cylinder machine, with its striking “bathtub” fairing and longitudinally mounted engine block, broke all existing conventions of its time.

Inspired by this living legend, Vanguard decided to add a new chapter to Moto Guzzi’s rich history. They collaborated with custom builders Numbnut Motorcycles from Amsterdam to create both a Vanguard jeans and a new bike. In partnership with Swiss studio Gannet Design, Numbnut designed a unique contemporary version of the classic Moto Guzzi V8.

The design integrates eight features from the V8 Racer Jeans into the bike — and vice versa. For example, the license plate is secured with tire track rivets taken from the jeans, the saddle features the same triple stitching as the denim, and the bar-end caps and saddle are embossed with the Vanguard logo.

A perfect collaboration between Moto Guzzi, Vanguard, and Numbnut, resulting in a truly unique creation: the Vanguard Moto Guzzi V8.

KEEP IT COOL, KEEP IT BLUE

VANGUARD MOTO GUZZI V7

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moto Guzzi V7, Vanguard paid tribute to the Italian brand by building the custom-made Vanguard Moto Guzzi V7 Anniversary Bike. It was designed by Swiss studio Gannet Design, the same studio behind the Vanguard Moto Guzzi V8 Racer built by Numbnut Motorcycles.

This time, the custom bike was built by Wrench Kings from Bilthoven. The machine features multiple references to Vanguard and the V7 Anniversary Jeans, such as the lacquered tank with a denim effect, the V-pattern rear light, and the embossed logo on the tank.

The handmade saddle matches the color of the stitched back patch. The bolts on the engine share the same color as the rivets on the jeans, and the turn signals integrated into the handlebars feature the Vanguard logo on the side.

For the presentation of the V7 Custom, pinstriper Martijn Krabman designed a one-off custom helmet featuring the same design theme as the jeans and the bike.

VANGUARD MOTOGUZZI V850

Over the years, Vanguard has built unique crossovers between its jeans and custom-built Moto Guzzi motorcycles. In this collection as well, there was once again a fruitful cross-pollination between the creation of a custom-built bike and the development of a new pair of jeans.

The new V850 Rider Jeans is a NOOS (Never Out Of Stock) style, made from comfortable 4-way stretch denim and available in two new washes: Clean Dark Blue and Mid Blue Used.

At the same time, the team at Wrench Kings brought the “Master of Endurance” to life: the Moto Guzzi V7 designed by Gannet Design. The design is a respectful reference to the legendary Moto Guzzi V850 Le Mans and a tribute to its rich racing history.

This futuristic custom features various details that reference the jeans — and vice versa — such as the color and stitching of the saddle, the V-shaped cut-out for the rear light, the waistband patch in Decadent Chocolate, triple highway stitching, the V above the back pocket, and the zipper on the side of the saddle.

VANGUARD MOTO GUZZI V85

For the FW20 Spark collection, Vanguard took a completely different route. With the Vanguard V85 Design Challenge, five professional custom builders were invited to create a one-of-a-kind design for the new Vanguard Moto Guzzi Scrambler bike.

All designers were given creative freedom, with one condition: certain elements of the new V85 jeans had to be incorporated into the design.

Luuc Muis of LM Creations from Groningen received by far the most votes. After celebrating his victory, he immediately got to work transforming the supplied Moto Guzzi Scrambler into his winning design. He first stripped the bike completely and then began the transformation step by step — from modifying the frame and designing a new tank to fitting a new set of tires and creating new valve covers using a 3D printer.

The wood look & feel — also featured in the buttons and back patch of the jeans — was incorporated by Luuc into the new tank, among other elements.

And the final result speaks for itself!
